Grandparents Day is on the 2nd of October
Another American introduction, National Grandparents Day is now celebrated the World over, though admittedly, most of the World does not really know much about it. In United Kingdom we only incorporated Grandparents Day into our calendar in 2008. In the United States this has been the case since 1977, when a resolution was passed through the Senate to make Grandparents Day into a national holiday with the following citation as the main purpose: “…to honor grandparents, to give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children’s children, and to help children become aware of strength, information, and guidance older people can offer”.
Gifts to our grandparents are often very different from the gifts we send to other people. For the most important part I think that they should be more sentimental, as most grandparents tend to have had a very different growing up experiences to the newer generations, but this does not mean that the generations after have forgotten about them, or do not appreciate the fact that they are here because of their grandparent in the first place. Last year we had an American family who sent us a drawing made by their child which they wanted us to send along with the flowers to their grandpa. Of course we obliged, but this also gave us an idea and we are now offering this same service to all our customers. So, just bring, mail and email in the drawing, or whatever else it may be that you want to send to your grandparents to one of our shops and we will take care of the rest, just make sure to do this by 01 October.

GRANDMA’S FLOWERS POEM:
Each time I go to Grandma’s place
To spend some summer hours,
She lets me pick a big bouquet
Of pretty garden flowers.
I’ve learned the names of almost all
The flowers Grandma grows:
Carnation, iris, pansy, phlox
Petunia, and rose.
The sweet pea is my favorite;
It has a lovely smell.
The flower Grandma likes the best
Is Canterbury bell.
I think my Grandma’s wonderful
And hope that when I’m grown,
I’ll have a “green thumb” just like hers
And flowers of my own.
